Actress Jennifer Lawrence has launched her first public Instagram account after refusing to join the social media platform for more than ten years.
The American movie star uploaded her first video to the profile on Thursday, September 10, appearing without any makeup to speak directly to her followers. Her follower count surpassed 670,000 within hours of launching the account and has since grown to more than 4 million.
Social Media Toxicity and Account Deletion Threat
In her initial video, Lawrence issued a humorous warning that she would permanently delete her profile if she received even a single negative response. She told viewers she had decided to give the platform a chance, but said she would leave immediately with no questions asked if anyone posted anything negative. She added that if anyone even thought something bad, she would know and quit.
Lawrence followed up the video with a post on her Instagram story written in the same lighthearted tone, emphasizing that hostile remarks affect her psychologically. She asked followers to remember that any malicious or aggressive comment could negatively affect the baby, before clarifying that she was referring to herself as the baby.
Decade of Resistance and Cosmetic Procedures
Her decision to join Instagram marks a shift after more than a decade of avoiding the platform. Lawrence had previously declined to create an account because of the toxicity she felt dominated social media platforms.
The launch follows earlier reports on September 4 where the actress discussed cosmetic procedures and acknowledged using baby botox, a low-dosage injection technique designed to smooth fine lines while preserving facial expression. Outlets officially confirmed the creation of her new public profile on September 10.
Lawrence is best known for her roles in major Hollywood films, including starring as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise and winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in Silver Linings Playbook.
