Greek Economy Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis has outlined a triple economic plan for September aimed at boosting household incomes, managing private debt, and attracting investments. In comments published in the newspaper Apogevmatini tis Kyriakis, Pierrakakis said the government was preparing permanent measures to lighten family budgets while maintaining fiscal stability.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will present the government package at the Thessaloniki International Fair, targeting pensioners, self-employed workers, employees, and farmers. Pierrakakis said the initiative would focus on permanent tax reductions and income support within the real capabilities of the national economy.
Primary residence debt protections
The second pillar of the government plan will take effect on September 21 with new protections for primary residences through an expanded out-of-court settlement mechanism. Pierrakakis noted that the measure builds on existing debt relief options, including 72 monthly installment plans, improvements to out-of-court procedures, and higher limits for unseizable bank accounts.
He described addressing private debt as both an economic necessity and a social priority to help thousands of citizens manage accumulated financial burdens and regain control of their lives.
Investment framework and financial hubs
The third element aims to strengthen Greece's position on the global financial map by encouraging international investment fund managers to establish operational bases in the country. Pierrakakis said the government had created a competitive framework designed to attract fund managers who will set up offices, relocate executives, and bring specialized technical expertise to Athens.
He added that the arrival of major investment firms would support a broader commercial ecosystem including legal, audit, banking, consulting, and technology service providers. Significant developments regarding foreign investments are expected in the coming weeks, which Pierrakakis said could help Athens enter financial markets currently dominated by established international hubs.
The Thessaloniki International Fair is held annually in northern Greece and serves as the traditional venue for the prime minister to outline economic policy for the upcoming year. Greece's out-of-court settlement mechanism was established to allow individuals and businesses to restructure debt owed to private banks, tax authorities, and social security funds through a single digital platform.
Pierrakakis emphasized that the government strategy is designed around citizen needs rather than short-term benefit payouts. He said the measures aim to leave families with more disposable income, offer debt relief to those seeking a fresh start, and create new jobs through foreign investment.
