Robert Lewandowski scored twice to give Chicago Fire a 2-1 win over Charlotte FC, earning the club their first three points since the World Cup break.
The Polish striker had gone goalless in his first two MLS appearances, against Inter Miami and New York City FC. Charlotte FC’s Pep Biel put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute, but Lewandowski responded almost immediately. Zinckernagel set him up just outside the penalty area, and Lewandowski controlled, adjusted and shot before the goalkeeper could react.
He added a second in the 68th minute to seal the result at 2-1. Chicago Fire’s official account said there was a reason the striker was nicknamed LewanGOALski.
Chicago fans had been keen to see Lewandowski score at home after a previous fixture against Vancouver Whitecaps was cancelled due to smoke.
