Mikhail Baryshnikov, a 72-year-old deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg, has become the oldest footballer in Russian Cup history, Championat reported.
Baryshnikov started with the captain's armband for Saint Petersburg Dynamo in their second round Regions Path match against media football club FC 10. The deputy was substituted in the fifth minute.
Previous record holder
The previous record belonged to former Zenit board chairman Alexander Medvedev. In September 2025, at age 70, Medvedev started for Amkal in a 2:1 third round Regions Path match against Salyut Belgorod. He spent 23 minutes on the pitch, touched the ball three times, and committed two fouls.
Baryshnikov also plays for the Petergof veterans' football and hockey teams.
