Moroccan international midfielder Imran Louza has officially joined Panathinaikos from English club Watford.
The Greek side paid a transfer fee of approximately 7 million euros to secure the 27-year-old, who had long been a target for the Athens-based team. Louza signed a contract that the club announced as a three-year deal, although he reportedly agreed to terms for three years with an option for a fourth.
Capable of playing in both central and defensive midfield roles, Louza brings extensive experience from the top divisions of England and France to the Super League Greece club.
In a statement announcing the move, Panathinaikos confirmed the acquisition and detailed his career path. The club welcomed Louza into the Panathinaikos family, noting his arrival at the "Clover" following his transfer from Watford.
Rise through Nantes academy
Born in Nantes, France, on May 1, 1999, Louza joined his hometown club's academy at the age of seven. He progressed through the youth ranks at Nantes, serving as captain for several age-group teams during his footballing education.
He made his professional debut for the first team in January 2019 during a French Cup match against Chateauroux, scoring in his maiden appearance. After establishing himself in the senior squad, he spent two seasons playing a significant role for the club, recording 12 goals across 66 appearances.
Watford and Lorient loan
In the summer of 2021, Louza transferred to Watford. He featured for the club in both the Premier League and the Championship, establishing himself as a key fixture in their midfield.
During his time in England, Louza had a brief return to France, joining Lorient on loan in January 2024 until the end of the season. He then returned to Watford, where he completed two more full campaigns. In total, he made 141 appearances for the English side, contributing 15 goals and 22 assists.
International career with Morocco
At the international level, Louza initially represented both France and Morocco in youth competitions. However, he definitively committed to the Moroccan senior national team in 2021.
He made his senior international debut in October of that year in a match against Guinea-Bissau, finding the net in his first appearance. He has since earned 15 caps for the Moroccan national team.
