Greek actor and director Socrates Alafouzos has emptied his late mother's home of 29 years and handed back the keys, departing Athens alongside his daughter.
The performer shared the update on his personal Instagram account on Tuesday, August 25, two months after his mother passed away in June. He explained that after surrendering her residence, he no longer has anyone waiting for him in the Greek capital, turning to his daughter for comfort during the transition.
In a detailed message, Alafouzos recounted how he spent the morning transporting the final items from the apartment, describing it as empty of possessions yet filled with memories, thoughts, and love. By midday, he handed the keys over to the landlord and walked through the door for the final time, noting the absence of his mother's customary farewell wishing him well and asking the Virgin Mary to protect him.
Journey from Athens to Epidaurus
Alafouzos recounted running to his daughter early in the afternoon to share mutual affection before driving toward Epidaurus. He noted that the journey brought him back to the theatrical world he chose early in life as a means of expression, describing theater as a comfort that allows the heart and mind to rest.
Four hours later, which he described as feeling like a dream, Alafouzos arrived at the airport with his daughter for a 6:00 a.m. flight out of the country. He reflected that while he no longer has a home or a warm embrace waiting for him in Athens, he will carry love in his heart forever.
Tributes and family support
Following his mother's death in June 2026, actress Vaso Goulielmaki publicly honored her memory on June 22, stating that she had served as both a mother and a father to Alafouzos throughout her life.
Alafouzos responded with a public statement of thanks to Goulielmaki on June 30, writing that she had stood by his mother like a true daughter during her lifetime.
Alafouzos is a prominent figure in Greek theater, film, and television, while Goulielmaki is a well known Greek actress.
