Voice of Reason president Afroditi Latinopoulou faced a verbal attack from a group of 15 to 20 men at the port of Tinos. The Member of the European Parliament had traveled to the island with her mother to pray at the Panagia church.
The incident began when the men approached Latinopoulou to ask why she calls them gypsies, with one man saying they were not all the same. Latinopoulou replied that if they pay taxes and do not commit theft or electricity theft she has no issue with them, noting that her public comments target lawbreakers.
Members of the group responded with vulgar language, and one man moved toward her. Another person in the group held the man back, preventing a physical fight.
Statement on government policy
In a published statement, Latinopoulou called the incident a real gypsy story and criticized policy under New Democracy, which she said has governed Greece for seven years. She stated that under Prime Minister Mitsotakis, groups including gypsies, Rouvikonas members, anti-Semites, anarcho-hooligans, illegal immigrants, leftists, and rights activists act as they wish without accountability.
Latinopoulou described Greece as a paradise for criminals, illegal immigrants, and gypsies. She also wished Mitsotakis a quick recovery after he fell off his bicycle.
