Angelina Jolie walked hand in hand with her daughter Zahara at a special New York screening of her new film "Without Blood," which she directed, held at the Village East Angelika theater.
Photographers captured a tender moment as mother and daughter arrived together, with Jolie hugging Zahara and kissing her on the forehead, according to People magazine.
For the event, Jolie wore an elegant black suit with a structured jacket, wide-leg trousers and pointed-toe high heels. Zahara matched her mother's minimalist style in a long black dress with a distinctive knot detail at the waist.
Video and photos from the screening showed Jolie stopping to sign autographs for fans gathered outside the theater. Entertainment Tonight shared footage of the moment on social media.
The film Without Blood
"Without Blood" is based on the novel of the same name by Italian author Alessandro Baricco, who worked with Jolie on adapting it for the screen. Baricco is also known for his novel "Silk." The film stars Salma Hayek Pinault and Demián Bichir and follows a woman who survived a war but cannot escape her past, as her trauma resurfaces and affects the people in her life.
Jolie, an Academy Award-winning actress, has also directed films including "Unbroken" and "First They Killed My Father." Hayek Pinault, a Mexican-American actress, was previously nominated for an Oscar for "Frida," while Bichir, a Mexican actor, earned an Oscar nomination for "A Better Life."
Jolie and Hayek Pinault's friendship
While promoting the film, Jolie and Hayek Pinault spoke about the close friendship they have shared since starring together as Thena and Ajak in Marvel's "Eternals."
Speaking to The Cut magazine, Hayek Pinault described her role in "Without Blood" as the most demanding of her career. She said that as an actress she often believed she had to put herself through real suffering to deliver a strong performance, but that feeling so much support on this project made her realize she did not need to go through such an ordeal in reality.
Jolie said there were moments when she felt she was genuinely putting her friend through hardship, but that she loved the experience.
Almost moving to Paris
Hayek Pinault also revealed a lesser-known chapter of their friendship, recalling that she once nearly convinced Jolie to move permanently to Paris. She said Jolie had seriously considered it, recalling how she had pleaded with her not to leave her there alone, while Jolie, she said, always seemed to be searching for wilder places instead.
Jolie responded with an emotional admission of her own. She said she had needed to get away and have fun during that period, and that Hayek Pinault had met her during a dark time in her life and managed to make her smile again.
Zahara, whom Jolie adopted from Ethiopia in 2005, has occasionally joined her mother at industry events in recent years.
