Apple has released an urgent iOS 26.7.1 software update for iPhone users who have not upgraded to iOS 27, technology news publication BGR reported.
The corporate release includes iOS 26.7.1 for smartphones alongside iPadOS 26.7.1 for tablets. Apple specified that the operating system updates are intended for users who have not transitioned to iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, or who cannot install the version 27 software on their devices for specific reasons.
The publication noted that the update is mandatory and urgent. According to documentation from Apple, the patch resolves a security vulnerability that has already been leveraged in active real-world cyberattacks against mobile device users.
The security flaw resides in CoreGraphics, a system component responsible for image processing and graphics rendering across Apple devices. As a foundational software framework in Apple operating systems, CoreGraphics handles vector graphics, visual asset processing, and screen rendering for built-in and third-party applications. Apple stated in its materials that attackers could exploit the flaw in complex attacks targeting individual iPhone users running operating system versions below iOS 27.
Supported Devices and System Installation
The iOS 26.7.1 update is available for the iPhone 11 and all newer smartphone models. The iPadOS 26.7.1 update is compatible with eighth-generation iPad models, the 11-inch iPad Pro, and newer tablet models.
To install the update on an eligible device, users must open the Settings application, select the General menu, and proceed to the Software Update section. Operating system updates are distributed over-the-air, allowing device owners to download and install security maintenance patches directly through system settings.
Apple clarified that users running iOS 27 received a fix for the vulnerability separately. Because the resolution was delivered directly to the newer platform, users operating iOS 27 do not need to roll back to an earlier system version.
Previous Software Updates and Fixes
The security release follows earlier software corrections issued by Apple at the end of September. The company previously acknowledged operational errors on its mobile hardware and deployed iOS 27.0.1 to address user reports.
The earlier iOS 27.0.1 update eliminated software issues affecting newly introduced devices, including the flagship iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max smartphones. Apple regularly releases maintenance updates following major software launches to resolve technical bugs and protect user security across its product lineup.
