Autostrada Begins Concreting Kyiv Overpass Structure

Ukrainian construction firm Autostrada has started concreting the main span of a new road overpass near Chernihivska metro station in Kyiv.

The contractor plans to restore automobile and tram traffic across the new structure and reopen movement along Brovarskyi Avenue in November.

Autostrada announced that crews are executing the concreting process in planned 18-meter sections. Initial pouring began in the central portion of the span, with workers subsequently moving outward to the edge sections to distribute structural load evenly across the framework.

The press service said this phased sequence ensures that steel support beams are integrated into operation gradually under balanced weight conditions. At the same time, road teams are applying asphalt concrete pavement along the connecting interchange ramps.

Chernihivska metro station is an essential transport hub on the Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska Line of the Kyiv Metro system, located in the capital's eastern left-bank region. Brovarskyi Avenue serves as a key arterial road linking central Kyiv with the eastern suburb of Brovary and national highway routes.

Overpass construction schedule and structural features

Autostrada aims to complete concreting across the entire superstructure by the end of September. Following the scheduled reopening of road and tram traffic in November, the company expects to finish all capital repairs on the overpass in 2027.

The new structure will feature eight lanes for vehicular traffic, two tram tracks, pedestrian sidewalks, and dedicated bicycle lanes. The expanded capacity is designed to improve traffic flow and safety at one of eastern Kyiv's busiest road junctions.

Monolithic concrete construction involves pouring liquid concrete into reinforced steel frameworks on site, creating a seamless and heavy-duty structure. Grade-separated interchanges eliminate surface intersections between road traffic and railway lines, reducing transit bottlenecks and potential collision points in high-volume urban zones.

Contract details and regional infrastructure projects

The Autostrada group of companies, founded by businessman Maksym Shkil, won the tender for the capital repair of the overpass and interchange near Chernihivska metro station in November 2025. The contract was awarded without competition at a total price of 985 million hryvnias.

Autostrada is one of Ukraine's largest infrastructure contractors, specializing in highway construction, bridge building, and large-scale public transport projects nationwide. The company handles major civil engineering works for municipal authorities and state transport agencies.

The project follows previous infrastructure work in the capital, where Kyiv authorities fully restored an overpass from scratch near the neighboring Darnytsia metro station.

Darnytsia metro station is located one stop west of Chernihivska on the Kyiv Metro Red Line. The adjacent transport corridors form a vital transit spine for commuters traveling between Kyiv's residential left-bank districts and the city center on the right bank of the Dnieper River.
