BlackRock Sees Shift in Investor Sentiment Toward Bitcoin

BlackRock digital assets director Mitchnick announced that investor sentiment toward Bitcoin has changed over the past month as the cryptocurrency diverged from stock trends. Earlier in the year, Bitcoin prices moved less synchronously with equity markets, declining while artificial intelligence shares experienced rapid growth.

Investor behavior shifted in July when artificial intelligence stocks underwent a correction and Bitcoin posted significantly better performance. Mitchnick called this divergence an important factor for investors seeking portfolio diversification against extreme financial risks.

Market Cycles and Institutional Buying

Investors holding spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds mostly maintain a long-term buy and hold strategy, according to Mitchnick. He noted that Bitcoin remains highly volatile and has moved through five major growth and fall cycles, with each cycle closing at a higher level than the previous one despite market challenges.

Mitchnick expects the current market cycle to follow a similar pattern. Coinbase strategic development director John D’Agostino previously noted that large financial institutions increase their Bitcoin buying during price drops and reduce activity at market peaks.
