Brazil’s Ministry of Finance published an ordinance on Friday extending the Desenrola 2.0 debt renegotiation program through the end of August. The program had been due to expire on Monday, August 3.
Minister Durigan said the extension would not require new contributions from the FGO, the government’s operations guarantee fund, and that existing enrollment rules would remain unchanged.
Under the ordinance, the extension applies only to financial institutions that had completed at least 1,000 FGO-backed credit operations under the Novo Desenrola Brasil program by July 30.
Durigan said the additional time would give people already in line to renegotiate bank debts roughly 30 more days to complete the process. He cited motorcycle couriers and drivers seeking vehicle exchange credit through the Move Brasil program as an example, noting that those with negative credit records are currently blocked from accessing it.
With the extension, Durigan said the government expects to reach 10 million people through the Novo Desenrola program.
