Undrafted New Orleans Saints rookie receiver Brock Rechsteiner has been suspended for the first six games of his professional career for violating the NFL-NFLPA policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
The news was first revealed on the NFL transaction wire without explanation for the six-game ban. An NFL spokesman later confirmed to The Daily Mail in an email that the suspension resulted from a performance-enhancing drug policy violation, though no further details were provided. The Daily Mail sought reactions from Saints spokespeople and Rechsteiner's agent.
Rechsteiner remains eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including the Saints' three exhibition games, until final 53-man roster cuts. If the Saints keep him on the roster, his six-game ban will begin and he will not be permitted inside the team facility in Metairie.
Family wrestling ties and roster battle
Rechsteiner has drawn significant fan attention at training camp due to his famous family. He is the son of former WWE wrestler Scott Rechsteiner, also known as Scott Steiner and Big Poppa Pump, who is in the WWE Hall of Fame. His uncle Rick Steiner and cousin Bronson Rechsteiner have also performed with the wrestling circuit, with Rick attending the 2025 Royal Rumble at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Rechsteiner, who wore No. 89 at Jacksonville State, played wide receiver for the school after starting his college career as a tight end. At 6 feet 2 inches and 225 pounds, he is larger than most players at the receiver position, but enters his rookie season with limited production at a mid-major school.
College stats and potential H-back role
He recorded a career-high 35 catches for 384 yards and five touchdowns in 2025 after filling a much smaller role for Jacksonville State in 2023 and 2024. There has been talk of him filling more of an H-back role in the NFL, occasionally lining up in the backfield or at tight end as he hopes to make the Saints roster out of training camp.
If he cannot make it in the NFL, Rechsteiner has long considered the wrestling ring as his backup career. "I want to do football as long as I can," Rechsteiner told Rod Walker of nola.com. "Once that's done, I will pursue wrestling."
