Following a scoreless opening period, Joel Farabee broke the deadlock for Calgary by scoring the opening goal in the 35th minute. Matt Coronato doubled the lead in the 38th minute, and Samuel Honzek added a third goal in the 39th minute to cap off a dominant stretch for the home side.
Second period goal rush
Vancouver responded in the third period when Arshdeep Bains scored in the 47th minute to reduce the deficit to 3-1. However, the Canucks were unable to generate further scoring chances against the Flames defense before time expired.
The match featured several other Russian players competing on both teams. Defenseman Yan Kuznetsov and forward Maxim Tsyplakov took the ice for the Flames, while Kirill Kudryavtsev and Ilya Safonov played for Vancouver. None of the four players managed to record a point during the game.

Gridin's two-assist performance marked his first scoring contribution of the current pre-season campaign. The Russian forward played 37 games for Calgary during the previous season, tallying 20 points on six goals and 14 assists.
