Cathie Wood Says ARK Invest Will Hold Bitcoin for Decades

Cathie Wood, chief executive of the American investment firm ARK Invest, said her company plans to hold its multi-billion-dollar bitcoin holdings for decades, arguing that bitcoin functions as a store of value and a hedge against inflation.

Wood said ARK Invest expects the price of bitcoin to keep rising over the long term, which she believes could grow the value of the firm's holdings. She said bitcoin's trading behavior increasingly resembles that of gold, since both assets have risen amid concerns about the devaluation of government currencies and growing global government debt.

Unlike gold, Wood said, bitcoin has a fixed supply capped at 21 million coins, a halving mechanism that periodically cuts the reward paid to miners in half, and rising investment from both traditional companies and private investors around the world. Halving events happen roughly every four years and are built into bitcoin's code to slow the rate at which new coins enter circulation. She said these factors lay the groundwork for the price to keep climbing.

Bitcoin's finite supply

Wood pointed out that the final bitcoin will not be mined until the year 2140. She said that timeline puts bitcoin closer in character to gold and silver than to other assets, because the supply of precious metals on Earth is likewise finite.

ARK Invest is a US asset management firm best known for its actively managed exchange-traded funds, including its flagship ARK Innovation ETF, and for Wood's long-standing bullish stance on bitcoin and other disruptive technologies.

In a video shared by the crypto commentary account Altcoin Daily on September 7, 2026, Wood discussed her outlook on bitcoin versus gold, saying the comparison "looks promising" and that "a turn is in." She pointed to three developments she called big revolutions, in technology, in global money and in the emergence of a new asset class, and described bitcoin as "both a risk off and a risk on" asset.

Hopes for US regulation

The CLARITY Act is a proposed piece of US legislation intended to set clearer federal rules for how digital assets are classified and regulated. Wood said she hopes the bill will ultimately be signed into law, arguing that its passage would encourage corporate investors to buy more bitcoin, which in turn would significantly push up its price. Wood forecast that bitcoin would become more attractive to investors than gold and that its price would climb to $1 million per coin.

Wood has previously said that as bitcoin matures, she expects it to become less volatile and stop trading with the sharp price swings it has shown in the past, a shift she has linked partly to investment through spot exchange-traded funds tied to bitcoin.
