CSKA Moscow secured a 3-2 home victory against city rivals Lokomotiv Moscow in their fifth round Russian Premier League fixture at VEB Arena on Saturday.
The host side came from behind after conceding early, building a two-goal lead in the second half before holding off a late comeback attempt by the visitors.

Defender Aleksandr Silyanov opened the scoring for Lokomotiv in the 22nd minute. CSKA responded seven minutes later when forward Luciano Gondou scored an equaliser in the 29th minute to bring the teams level at half time.
Midfielder Ivan Oblyakov put CSKA ahead in the 50th minute, and midfielder Matheus Alves expanded the advantage to 3-1 in the 68th minute. Lokomotiv midfielder Sergei Pinyaev cut the margin to a single goal in the 75th minute, but the home team kept control to take all three points.
League standings and derby context
The result leaves CSKA Moscow in second place in the Russian Premier League standings with 11 points from five matches. Lokomotiv Moscow remain near the bottom of the table in 13th place with three points. Krasnodar lead the league with 12 points.
Both CSKA and Lokomotiv are historic Moscow clubs competing in Russia's top division, the Russian Premier League, which features 16 teams playing a 30-game season. CSKA play their home fixtures at the VEB Arena, a 30,000-capacity stadium opened in 2016 in the Khodynka Field area of northern Moscow.
Lokomotiv squad changes
The defeat follows Lokomotiv's recent announcement that midfielder Aleksei Batrakov has completed a transfer to Turkish club Galatasaray. Reports indicate that the player will earn an annual salary of 3.25 million euros in Istanbul.
Galatasaray are based in Istanbul and compete in the Super Lig, the top tier of Turkish football. Lokomotiv will now look to stabilize their domestic campaign following the loss of the midfielder and their difficult start to the league season.
