Ukrainian company DevDroid has updated the Droid Box control system for ground combat robots, adding two-way audio communication and a new autonomous movement function.
The update lets an operator remotely send voice messages or play audio files through a speaker on the robot. At the same time, the system transmits sound from the robot's built-in microphones back to the operator's tablet, making it easier to assess the surrounding situation and monitor the machine's technical condition.
Autonomous movement in blackout zones
Another new feature allows the robot to automatically cross sections of terrain where communication is temporarily lost. The robot can independently complete a pre-set route, with control returning to the operator once the signal is restored.
Droid Box supports up to six types of communication and is compatible with ground robotic platforms from different manufacturers. The updated capabilities will also be integrated into a new batch of Zmiy Droid 12.7 robotic systems, which DevDroid is developing together with RoverTech.
Other recent DevDroid projects
DevDroid recently released electric triggers for infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and robotic systems. A robot built by the company also destroyed two Russian soldiers from a distance of 300 meters, according to the source material.
