Dimitris Kolovetsios has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. The center back from Larissa made his professional debut with AEL before going on to play for PAS Giannina, AEK and Panathinaikos.
He later moved abroad to Turkey to play for Kayserispor, and his final club was another Turkish side, Sakaryaspor.
Career numbers and honors
Over the course of his career, Kolovetsios made 447 appearances in official matches, scoring 15 goals and providing one assist. He celebrated winning the Greek Cup with AEK in the 2015-16 season.
His announcement
In a social media post, the now-retired defender wrote that a beautiful journey had reached its end. He said the post marked the announcement of the end of his football career, describing it as a special journey that he had kept going over the years with consistency, appetite and a lot of sweat.
Kolovetsios said he was grateful for everything he experienced and gained, and thanked everyone he played and worked alongside for the sport he called the most beautiful of all. He said he was leaving full of images, emotions and experiences that shaped him and his entire life.
