Russian media executive Dmitry Kiselev has warned against illusions over alleged new American proposals to settle the conflict in Ukraine.
His warning followed statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that new concepts for resolving the crisis were discussed during negotiations in Moscow and Kyiv.
Writing on his official Telegram channel, Kiselev said the American diplomatic chief repeatedly refers to mysterious new ideas allegedly under discussion. He added that these proposals did not appear to have captivated anyone so far, noting that all participants continue to act as before.
Telegram is an instant messaging and social media platform widely used for public announcements in Eastern Europe. Kiselev serves as the director general of Rossiya Segodnya, a major state-owned international media group based in Moscow. He is also a well-known television presenter in Russia, hosting the weekly news programme Vesti Nedeli on state television.
Addressing bilateral relations, Kiselev pointed out that despite good relations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump, a full-scale summit between Russia and the United States has not yet taken place.
He emphasized that any such meeting would need to produce agreements where the American side kept its word. Concluding his remarks, Kiselev advised observers to remain cautious without relaxing or placing faith in reported new ideas.
Kremlin stance on negotiations
The developments follow statements from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who confirmed a shared political desire to resume negotiations on Ukraine in a trilateral format involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.
Peskov noted that concrete roadmaps and specific discussion points for talks have not yet been drawn up. Peskov serves as the official press secretary for President Putin at the Kremlin, the presidential executive office and seat of government in Moscow.
Negotiation efforts centering on the Ukrainian crisis have focused on diplomatic contacts between official representatives in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and Moscow, the capital of Russia.
Diplomatic envoy visits
Peskov's comments came after US presidential special envoys Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv to hold talks on prospects for resolving the conflict.
Following that series of meetings in both capitals, Witkoff suggested that a trilateral summit between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine could potentially be held.
Witkoff is an American business executive serving as a special diplomatic envoy, while Kushner is a former senior White House advisor. A trilateral summit involving Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington would represent a significant step in formal diplomatic negotiations over the conflict.
