The Los Angeles Dodgers paid an emotional tribute to Rob Reiner on Sunday, eight months after the death of the Hollywood director and his wife Michele, as the couple's children Jake, 35, and Romy, 28, threw out the ceremonial first pitch together before the team's home game against the Boston Red Sox at Dodger Stadium.
The team honored Reiner's memory on the field in a ceremony that held deep significance for the family. Jake, a podcaster and actor, has previously said the Dodgers were central to his relationship with his father. Earlier this year he wrote: "I'll never go to Dodger Stadium again without feeling my dad's presence and hearing his voice."
The Dodgers also displayed a family photograph of Rob, Michele, Jake and Romy together from a previous visit to the stadium. Sunday's pre-game ceremony marked one of the few joint public appearances by Jake and Romy since their parents were killed on December 14, 2025.
The Killing of Rob and Michele Reiner
Rob and Michele Reiner, who had been married for 36 years, were found stabbed to death at their $13.5 million estate in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The couple's third child, Nick, 32, was arrested hours after the bodies were discovered and was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Nick was reportedly seen arguing fiercely with his parents at a star-studded Christmas party hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening before the bodies were found. He has a history of substance abuse and was also reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Nick Reiner's Time in Custody
Nick is being held in solitary confinement in the specialized medical observation unit at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. A source close to the Reiner family told the Daily Mail this month that he had been "rapidly deteriorating" in custody and had become "like a babbling child, totally out of it," to the extent that "his lawyers have a hard time talking to him."
He had received no personal visitors other than his lawyers until this past Monday, when he was met by someone described by a source as "a relative," in the presence of his counsel.
Alleged Prison Outburst
It was recently revealed that Nick was allegedly subject to disciplinary action over a purported outburst in prison as he awaits trial. A source claimed that on April 27, Nick showered and dressed in a fresh uniform before growing "very impatient" while waiting to be returned to his cell by deputies, who were delayed after another inmate apparently overdosed.
"He was recalcitrant, extremely hostile, creating a verbal disturbance, refusing to follow rules and not listening to any commands," the insider alleged to People magazine.
As a result, Nick was written up and had multiple privileges rescinded for five days, including commissary access, phone calls and visitation, the source said. Nick's counsel and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office declined the Daily Mail's requests for comment.
The insider said Nick "was yelling, screaming, being disrespectful and shouting many profanities" at the showers, having become "upset and hostile because no one was coming back right away and he wasn't attended to." According to the source, Nick "had finished showering and changed and wanted to return to his cell. When it took too long, he became frustrated and angry."
He is said to have aimed his vitriol at a sheriff and a sergeant, and three more guards reportedly arrived after a deputy requested reinforcements. The insider maintained, however, that Nick's disruptive behavior toward staff remained verbal and never escalated into a physical conflict.
After a supervising officer reviewed the disciplinary write-up, Nick received a cell visit from a disciplinary officer, who informed him of the punishments he had received and the violation he had committed, and spoke with him about his behavior. According to the source, Nick has generally become acclimatized to prison life, and the incident at the showers on April 27 was anomalous.
