Eintracht Frankfurt face a hectic final day of the summer transfer window on Tuesday as sports board member Markus Krösche works on multiple potential transfers.
The German Bundesliga club traditionally generates significant discussion on deadline day. Krösche has come under criticism recently, but several deals are expected before the market closes.
Transfer window deadlines across Europe
The top five European leagues agreed to extend the summer transfer window by one day into September because the final Monday of August was a public holiday in England. Clubs in Germany have until 8 pm on Tuesday to complete signings and departures.
While the window closes for major European leagues on September 1, players can still move to smaller leagues in the coming days. The transfer window in the Dutch Eredivisie remains open until September 2, Austria until September 3, Turkey until September 4, and Switzerland until September 8. The top division in Saudi Arabia can sign players until September 6, while lower Saudi divisions have until October.
Players who could leave Frankfurt
Japanese left winger Ritsu Doan appeared set to leave, but he has opted to stay at Eintracht for another year rather than move to Saudi Arabia. A further turn in his situation is not expected.
French winger Jean-Mattéo Bahoya is considered a clear candidate for departure. Although Bahoya showed no interest in a potential move to Hull City, other options have emerged. Eintracht hope to sell him for a transfer fee of up to 30 million euros, a substantial sum for a squad player.
Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson is another likely departure. Despite expressing commitment to Frankfurt in early August, Larsson explored opportunities with Crystal Palace and Fulham last week. Fulham contacted Eintracht on Monday, making a transfer probable. Frankfurt value the midfielder but would accept a fee of around 25 million euros to generate revenue, especially as head coach Adi Hütter considers the central midfield well covered in terms of numbers.
As an alternative to selling Larsson, Eintracht might allow Farès Chaïbi to move to England following interest from English clubs. Chaïbi played the full match in the recent fixture against Union Berlin.
Goalkeeper Kaua Santos, who has been moved to the bench, is unlikely to leave on deadline day. A loan deal offering regular playing time would benefit his development, but no suitable destination or replacement goalkeeper has been identified. Out-of-favor left-back Niels Nkounkou has been linked with OGC Nice and Celtic Glasgow.
Striker targets and defensive additions
Attacking reinforcements remain the priority for Eintracht. French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, who was a bright spot for Frankfurt during the second half of last season, is available on the market. Kalimuendo has recently been left out of the squad at Nottingham Forest, the English Premier League team managed by Oliver Glasner.
Frankfurt previously saw little chance of re-signing Kalimuendo, but their prospects have improved. Eintracht are aiming for a loan move with an option or manageable obligation to buy. Nottingham Forest prefer a permanent sale for up to 30 million euros, which exceeds Frankfurt's budget and could complicate talks.
Former Frankfurt striker Joselu emerged as a potential option on Monday evening. The 36-year-old, who played for Eintracht 12 years ago in 2014, is currently a free agent. However, a deal for the veteran striker is considered unlikely as he would only serve as an emergency solution. Off-field target Louey Ben Farhat of Karlsruher SC will not be joining Eintracht despite long-standing interest from the club.
In defense, French center-back Lilian Brassier completed his medical check on Monday morning before his transfer from Stade Rennes was officially announced on Monday evening. Eintracht could also recruit a left-sided full-back on Tuesday, although no firm targets have been named and finding a striker remains the main focus.
