Estudiantes hold talks for CSKA midfielder Rodrigo Villagra

Argentine club Estudiantes is in negotiations with CSKA Moscow over the transfer of 25-year-old midfielder Rodrigo Villagra, according to reports.

The Argentine side has submitted an official offer to purchase 50 percent of the player's rights. However, CSKA Moscow is insisting on a full and definitive sale of the footballer.

Financial experts estimate Villagra's market transfer value at 3.5 million euros. News of the ongoing talks was reported by Russian sports website Sports.ru, citing information from journalist German Garcia Grova.

Stumbling blocks in transfer negotiations

Another major obstacle to completing the transfer is the position of Brazilian club Internacional, where the Argentine midfielder is currently playing on loan.

The management of the Porto Alegre club does not want to release the midfielder from his temporary contract ahead of schedule.

Villagra has been playing for Internacional since January. In 18 matches in the Brazilian championship, he has not scored a goal or registered an assist.

Contract details and player history

The midfielder remains under contract with CSKA Moscow until the end of 2028. Prior to his loan move to Brazil, he made eight appearances for the Moscow club in the Russian Premier League during the first half of last season.

Estudiantes de La Plata, based in the city of La Plata in Buenos Aires Province, is one of Argentina's established football institutions, competing in the top division of Argentine football, the Primera Division.

CSKA Moscow, officially known as PFC CSKA Moscow, is one of the most successful clubs in Russian football history and a regular contender in the Russian Premier League.

Structure of international player transfers

Sport Club Internacional is a top-flight Brazilian club based in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, competing in the Serie A championship. Mid-season loan terminations in South American football require agreement from all participating clubs.

The attempt by Estudiantes to secure 50 percent of Villagra's rights is a common arrangement in Latin American football transfers. Partial rights deals allow purchasing clubs to limit upfront transfer costs while sharing future resale value with the selling club.

CSKA Moscow's insistence on a complete transfer reflects the Russian club's desire to conclude the player's contract outright rather than retaining partial ownership.
