Evelyn Mitropoulou won the silver medal in the women's long jump at the World Athletics U20 Championships after jumping 6.44 meters. The 18-year-old athlete, coached by Giorgos Pomaski and competing under the guidance of Makis Pantos, secured the biggest achievement of her career with the second-place finish.
Mitropoulou started the competition with a jump of 6.27 meters to reach an early podium place. She moved into first place with her second attempt of 6.44 meters before Djelika Diarra of France took the lead with a 6.52-meter jump. Mitropoulou then recorded attempts of 6.21 meters, a foul, 5.99 meters off the board, and a final jump of 6.09 meters.

Diarra won gold with her 6.52-meter jump, setting the top U20 performance in Europe. French athlete Saliatou Niang took the bronze medal with a jump of 6.34 meters.
The performance produced the first Greek medal in the women's long jump in the history of the event and the 18th medal overall for the country. Mitropoulou had last jumped over 6.40 meters during the winter when she set her personal record of 6.45 meters, having since maintained marks above 6.20 meters.
The Greek team cheered from the stands throughout the competition to support the athlete. After the event, Mitropoulou celebrated wrapped in the national flag used by Greek medalists in age-category championships since 2022.
