Fitness Trainer Tom Ragusa Names Eight Best Exercises

Fitness trainer Tom Ragusa has recommended an eight-exercise strength training routine suitable for individuals of any age, reporting by publication Men Today revealed.

Ragusa explained that fitness routines do not require an overwhelming number of exercises to be effective. He advised selecting basic movements that engage major muscle groups while allowing the body to recover fully between workouts.

According to Ragusa, developing strength safely at any age depends on gradually increasing the workload, controlling breathing, and listening carefully to bodily sensations during training.

Core Body and Upper Body Exercises

The program compiled by Ragusa outlines eight primary exercises designed to build functional physical strength. For upper body strength, the routine includes push-ups performed either from the floor or against an elevated support, alongside bent-over rows using dumbbells or resistance bands.

Push-ups function as a fundamental compound movement targeting chest, shoulder, and triceps muscles, while bent-over pulling exercises strengthen the back and shoulder girdle.

For abdominal development, Ragusa recommended incorporating planks executed on either straight arms or forearms. The routine also incorporates dedicated abdominal movements, specifically standard crunches or the dead bug exercise.

Lower Body Movements and Core Stability

Lower body strength in the routine relies on bodyweight squats or weighted squats, paired with forward and reverse lunges. Squats and lunges work primary leg muscles, including the quadriceps and glutes, which maintain mobility in everyday movement.

The lower-body selection also includes the glute bridge to target the posterior chain. In addition, Ragusa specified calf raises designed to strengthen the ankles and calf muscles.

Previous Advice for Training After Forty

The report highlighted previous recommendations from fitness trainer Stuart Carter regarding effective workout programs for weight loss after the age of 40. Carter suggested a routine combining squats with swings, planks with hip twists, mountain climbers, crunches, and squat twists.

Strength training exercises form a cornerstone of physical fitness by building muscle tissue, supporting joint health, and enhancing metabolic function throughout adult life. By focusing on foundational movement patterns rather than complex exercise variations, structured routines aim to deliver sustainable fitness gains without risking physical exhaustion.
