Pinterest has identified football jerseys, Formula 1-inspired clothing and Y2K staples as the dominant fashion trends of summer 2026, based on an analysis of searches across its 600 million active users.
The platform released the findings in a report published in May. The timing coincides with the close of the FIFA World Cup and the continued rise of Formula 1’s mainstream profile, both of which have had a visible effect on what shoppers are searching for.
The F1 Aesthetic
Searches for “Formula 1 aesthetic outfits” surged 483 percent on Pinterest, a figure the platform links to the sport’s growing presence in fashion circles. Paddock figures have become style references, with Alexandra Saint Mleux, wife of driver Charles Leclerc, accumulating more than 5.3 million Instagram followers. Vintage windbreakers and Puma Speedcat sneakers have remained popular in stores, and Tommy Hilfiger produced a full collection in partnership with F1, the film. Pinterest recommends mixing one strong racing-inspired piece, such as a windbreaker or motorsport sneaker, with timeless basics like a dress or a blazer and jeans.
Football Shirts Off the Terraces
Searches for World Cup jerseys jumped 840 percent on Pinterest in recent months. The football shirt, whether a vintage secondhand find, a collector edition or the latest club release, has become a year-round wardrobe piece rather than a match-night staple. Equipment brands have been producing increasingly styled kits that blend club history with fashion-forward design.
During the World Cup, Nike and Jacquemus collaborated again to co-sign a training jersey for the French national team, which remained out of stock for several weeks after release. Pinterest suggests pairing a jersey with a satin midi skirt and platform shoes, or with jeans, sandals or kitten heels to offset the shirt’s sportswear origins.
Capri Pants and Bandana Scarves
Pinterest confirmed two early-2000s pieces as summer essentials. Searches for “summer outfits with capri pants” rose 185 percent, with the item being worn minimally with a tank top and mules, sportily with a track jacket, or dressed up with a lace camisole and heels.
The bandana scarf saw a 424 percent search increase. It can be worn around the neck, in the hair, tied to a bag handle, used as a belt or fashioned into a crop top, adding colour and personality to any summer outfit, according to Pinterest.
