Frankfurt’s City Triathlon will draw up to 3,000 athletes on Sunday, forcing road closures and public transport disruptions across the city from early morning until the afternoon.
The race begins at 6:30 a.m. at Langener Waldsee with the swimming leg. The cycling route then runs along the B44, the southern bank of the Main, Schwanheimer Brucke and Mainzer Landstrasse into the city center, with competitors completing the loop once or twice depending on their race distance.
The final running stage starts at Rossmarkt and passes through the inner city between Alte Oper and Konstablerwache, finishing at Hauptwache. The last finisher is expected around 2:00 p.m.
Road closures will be in effect from 4:30 a.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. Police said they would publish a full list of affected streets online on Saturday. Access to Universitatsklinik Frankfurt and Krankenhaus Sachsenhausen will remain open throughout the event.
Tram and Bus Disruptions
Tram lines 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 will run on partial routes or be rerouted between roughly 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Lines 15 and 18 will not run at all during that period, according to city transport operator traffiQ. Several stops along Mainzer Landstrasse will also be skipped on lines 11 and 21.
Bus lines M46, 51, 52, 59, 61, X61, 62, 64, X77, 78, 84, 87 and 89 will also be affected, operating on partial routes, running later or suspending service temporarily.
TraffiQ advises passengers to use U-Bahn or S-Bahn services where possible, though S-Bahn lines S1 and S2 toward Hochst are currently not stopping at Griesheim due to construction work, and Galluswarte station will not be served by S-Bahn trains this weekend.
