Chaired by its president, Dr Diego Murillo, the executive committee selected the eight recipient organisations under the 2026 Fundación AMA Soup Kitchens programme (Comedores Sociales Fundación AMA 2026). Each charity will receive a donation of 5,000 euros to carry out its social welfare work.

The initiative forms part of the 2026 Action Plan approved by the Fundación AMA board of trustees at its meeting in December 2025. The programme finances organisations that operate soup kitchens, distribute groceries, provide meal grants or serve charity lunches and dinners for people with limited financial means or those at risk of social exclusion.

Fundación AMA is the charitable arm of Agrupación Mutual Aseguradora (AMA), the Spanish mutual insurance company for healthcare professionals headquartered in Madrid. Through its annual action plans, the foundation funds social assistance, healthcare and educational initiatives throughout the country.

Eight charities receiving Fundación AMA funding

The eight beneficiaries operate across several Spanish regions and cities, providing daily meals and basic necessities to disadvantaged residents. In northern Spain, Cocina Económica de Logroño in La Rioja received 5,000 euros for its work supporting the comprehensive development of individuals and families in need through healthy nutrition, shelter and personal guidance.

In Vigo, in the northwestern region of Galicia, Comedor Social Virgen de Lourdes received funding for preparing daily homemade takeaway meals using fresh ingredients and varied, balanced menus. On Spain's eastern coast, Comedor Casa Caridad de Valencia was selected for its project distributing food and basic essentials to people facing social exclusion.

Two organisations in the Spanish capital were also named among the recipients. Catering Social Norte Joven in the Madrid district of Vallecas delivers free, balanced and healthy menus to families with no income, while Comedor Manos de Ayuda Social de Madrid offers food assistance to vulnerable individuals and families.

In western Spain, Comedor La Milagrosa de Cáceres in Extremadura will use its 5,000 euros to distribute meals and groceries to older adults with reduced mobility and to families without financial resources who have dependent children.

Completing the list of beneficiaries are Comedor Caliu Barcelona in Catalonia, which serves breakfasts from Monday to Sunday and lunches from Monday to Friday to people in need, and Comedor Social Edicoma Granada in Andalusia, which provides breakfasts and dinners to homeless and disadvantaged people.

New appointments to the Fundación AMA board of trustees

During the same meeting, Fundación AMA unanimously approved the appointment of two new members to its board of trustees.

The first new trustee is Elena Carrascosa Romero, who holds diplomas in podiatry and nursing and serves as president of the General Council of Official Associations of Podiatrists of Spain (Consejo General de Colegios Oficiales de Podólogos de España), the national body representing registered podiatrists in Spain.

The foundation also unanimously approved the incorporation of Francisco Marhuenda García, the director of La Razón, a national daily newspaper based in Madrid.
