At least five people, including two children, were killed on Monday in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip, according to local authorities and rescue services in the Palestinian enclave.
Two Palestinians died at dawn when a tent was bombed at a camp in Deir al-Balah, in the central part of the territory, the Hamas-run Gaza Civil Defense agency said.
A 10-year-old girl was killed by Israeli artillery fire north of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the same agency and a spokesperson for Nasser Hospital. An Israeli military spokesperson told Agence France-Presse the army had no knowledge of the report when asked for comment.
A 4-year-old child was killed in an Israeli bombardment of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, the Civil Defense agency said. It added that a mother and her child were pulled from the rubble at the same location.
An Israeli air strike on Khan Younis killed one person and wounded five others, rescue services told AFP.
Desalination Plant Destroyed
Israeli fighter jets fired three missiles that destroyed a water desalination unit in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of northwestern Gaza City, security sources in Gaza told AFP.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem condemned the strike, describing it as another attempt to deprive Gaza residents of every means of survival.
Responding to a question from AFP, an Israeli military spokesperson said the army had not targeted the desalination unit but a Hamas weapons depot inside a nearby mosque. The spokesperson said the military also struck a second weapons depot during the day, this time in Deir al-Balah.
The spokesperson said the two sites, located inside mosques in the Gaza Strip, had been used by Hamas militants to hide and store weapons, adding that warnings had been issued before the strikes to limit the risk to civilians.
Death Toll Since Ceasefire
The Gaza Strip's health ministry says at least 1,288 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations since October 10, 2025, when a fragile ceasefire took effect in the Palestinian enclave.
