Georgiadis Confirms Nurse Attacked at Red Cross Hospital

Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis confirmed that a nurse was attacked by a patient during an overnight shift at the Red Cross Hospital, in a post on the X platform.

Georgiadis said the incident happened in the early hours after the general overnight shift on August 7 ended. He said the patient was waiting on a stretcher to be examined when, for reasons still unknown, she attacked the nurse who was on duty in the emergency department.

Nurse beaten, patient arrested

The nurse was beaten, and police were called to the scene, Georgiadis said. He said the patient was arrested, and the nurse filed a criminal complaint against her.

Hospital doctors examined the nurse afterward and determined she could go home, according to the minister. The Red Cross Hospital management granted her five days of leave, and Georgiadis said arrangements had been made for her to stay off work as long as needed to recover physically and mentally.

Georgiadis said hands off the staff of Greece's National Health System, adding that many of them are on duty this time of year while most people are on vacation.
