PAOK attacking midfielder Giannis Konstantelias arrived in Dortmund on Sunday to complete a transfer to German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
The deal between the two clubs is expected to reach close to 30 million euros, although PAOK have not yet given final approval despite ongoing talks.
The 23-year-old Greece international landed at Dortmund airport shortly after 12:00 p.m. Greek time following a private flight from Thessaloniki. He is set to join fellow Greek player Konstantinos Karetsas at the Westphalian club.
Negotiations and financial terms
Konstantelias has reached a verbal agreement on a multi-year contract with Borussia Dortmund that will earn him an annual salary exceeding 3 million euros, reported at 3.2 million euros per season.
Sky Sport Germany reporter Patrick Berger said that final negotiations between the two clubs remain in progress without a full agreement having been reached. Discussions continue regarding a transfer fee between 25 million and 30 million euros alongside a sell-on clause.
Reporter Florian Plettenberg confirmed that a verbal agreement was in place and noted that initial parts of the player medical examination could take place on Sunday. Journalist Kevin Pinnow reported that Dortmund identified Konstantelias as an alternative target two days after negotiations for Said El Mala broke down.
Fan reaction at Toumba Stadium
The news of the impending transfer triggered immediate discontent among PAOK supporters in Thessaloniki. Fans gathered at Toumba Stadium on Sunday to voice strong opposition to the sale of the star midfielder.
Organised supporter groups assembled at the stadium and requested to speak directly with PAOK owner Ivan Savvidis as frustration mounted over the decision.
Supporters expressed anger over the timing of the transfer during a critical period for the club. The decision followed PAOK being eliminated from European competition by Belgian side Anderlecht and comes directly before their upcoming UEFA Conference League playoff ties against Norwegian club Brann.
Konstantelias established himself as a key playmaker at PAOK and has earned selection for the Greece national team. Borussia Dortmund, based in North Rhine-Westphalia, regularly compete in Germany's Bundesliga and European competition.
