Greece will open an online platform on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, for new applications to the "Personal Assistant for People with Disabilities" programme, the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family announced.
The scheme, which follows a successful pilot period, is now being established as a permanent, nationwide service aimed at supporting the independent living of people with disabilities across the country.
The Personal Assistant service provides individualised support based on the needs and choices of the disabled person, reinforcing their autonomy and freedom to make their own decisions. Beneficiaries choose their own assistant and organise the support they need for daily and personal care, transport, work, studies, access to services and participation in social life.
Minister's comments
Domna Michailidou, Greece's Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, said her ministry created the Personal Assistant programme, applied it for the first time in the country, tested it in practice, listened to beneficiaries and assistants, improved it and turned it into a permanent, nationwide institution.
She added that the submission of new applications would begin across Greece on Wednesday, saying the goal was to give people with disabilities more autonomy and more choices so they could organise their lives as they wished.
Who can apply
The programme is open to people with physical, intellectual, developmental, sensory or psychological disabilities who meet several conditions. Applicants must be between 16 and 67 years old, with a special provision extending eligibility to age 75 in certain cases.
They must have a primary disability rating of at least 67 percent, or be assessed as having total disability. Applicants must also live permanently and legally in Greece, be tax residents of the country and meet the programme's income criteria.
The basic household income threshold is 35,000 euros a year, rising by 17,500 euros for each additional adult member, or for the first minor member in a household with only one adult, and by 8,750 euros for each additional minor member.
Support worth up to 1,939 euros a month
After an application is submitted, candidates go through a scoring process and an individualised assessment of their needs.
Depending on the category of need identified in the assessment, the monthly value of the Personal Assistance support is set at up to 416 euros for minor need, 831 euros for moderate need, 1,352 euros for significant need, and 1,939 euros for total and permanent dependency.
The assessment takes into account not only the disability itself but also the applicant's functionality, living conditions and actual support needs, so that the assistance approved matches what each person requires.
No priority by order of submission
The order in which applications are submitted is not a criterion for entry into the programme. Applicants therefore do not need to rush to apply in the first hours or days after the platform opens, since the timing of submission does not affect scoring or assessment, according to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
Applications can be submitted until Friday, November 27, 2026, exclusively online through the platform at prosopikosvoithos.gov.gr.
