Gunmen Kill Three on Manabí Beach in Ecuador

Three people were killed and a woman was wounded on Monday afternoon in an armed attack in Cojimíes, a tourist parish in the canton of Pedernales in northern Manabí, Ecuador. The attack occurred around 3 p.m.

The dead were identified as Fabián Vicente Vera Garay, Carlos Andrés Mendoza Zambrano and Jonathan Fernando Mendoza Zambrano. A fourth victim, identified as Karla Jenifer B. M., was wounded in the attack.

The bodies were left in the beach chairs where the victims had been resting, facing the sea.

Attackers fled by sea

According to preliminary information, the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, with an entry and exit hole. Emergency crews treated her after the attack.

Early reports and witness accounts said the attackers arrived at the scene by boat, carried out the killing, and then escaped by the same route. The attack, in an area known for its beaches and tourism, worried residents and visitors nearby. Authorities have since been gathering evidence and testimony to reconstruct what happened.
