HSG Wetzlar suffered a second consecutive Handball-Bundesliga defeat on Thursday evening, falling 31-27 away to TBV Lemgo.
The defeat leaves the Hessian team facing the threat of an early season slump, having failed to pick up a single point from their opening two matches of the new campaign.
The host team established clear control during the first half of the contest in Lemgo. Although the opening minutes of the match remained balanced between the two sides, Lemgo gradually took charge of the game and pulled away to build a commanding 16-9 lead at the half-time break.
Wetzlar were unable to mount a successful comeback in the second half, despite a strong individual performance from Nikolaj Laeso. The Danish back-court player led the visitors in attack, ending the game as Wetzlar's top scorer with seven goals, but Lemgo maintained their advantage until the final whistle to secure the victory.

Thursday's loss comes after Wetzlar dropped their opening match of the season against newly promoted SG BBM Bietigheim. Wetzlar, based in the federal state of Hesse in central Germany, are long-standing members of the Handball-Bundesliga.
