Model Hugo García set off a wave of speculation on social media on Saturday, September 12, after posting two messages on the same day his former girlfriend, influencer Mafer Neyra, married businessman Ernesto Cabieses in a civil ceremony.
García first shared an Instagram story reading "Por fin llegó el día. 12.09" ("The day has finally arrived. 12.09"), accompanied by a heart emoji. He gave no further context or explanation for the post.
Hours later, he returned to social media, this time posting the phrase "Sé feliz" ("Be happy") on Threads. He did not name Neyra or Cabieses in either message, but the timing, matching the date of his ex-partner's wedding, was enough to trigger widespread speculation online.
An intimate wedding
While the online speculation played out, Neyra and Cabieses exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and close friends.
One of the most emotional moments came during the couple's vows, when Neyra recalled that she and Cabieses first met in Spain when they were children. She said she never imagined that the boy she met at age twelve would become the love of her life and her future husband.
García stays silent
Hugo García is a model known in Peru for his background in reality television. Amid the flurry of comments and theories following his posts, he chose not to make any statement clarifying what prompted them or what they were meant to convey.
His current partner, Venezuelan model Isabella Ladera, also stayed out of the discussion. She reappeared on social media around the same time to share progress on her postpartum fitness routine, but did not comment on García's messages or on Neyra's wedding.
What's next
Neither García nor Ladera has said whether they plan to address the speculation further, and as of now, García's reason for posting the two messages remains unexplained.
