The International Olympic Committee has declined to comment on an attempt by Ukraine's National Olympic Committee to challenge, before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the reinstatement of the Russian Olympic Committee's status, RIA Novosti reported.
The IOC said its position was set out in a press release dated July 7, 2026.

Ukraine's challenge
It became known on July 29 that the Ukrainian side was asking for the IOC's decision to be overturned, arguing it contradicts provisions of the Olympic Charter. Ukraine's National Olympic Committee believes the restoration of the Russian Olympic Committee's rights happened prematurely and without proper review.
Background on the suspension
On July 7, the IOC lifted its recommendations to international federations and organizers of international sporting events on restricting Russian participation. The Russian Olympic Committee was also provisionally reinstated.
The IOC had suspended the Russian Olympic Committee on October 12, 2023. That suspension came after the olympic councils of four new Russian regions were incorporated into the Russian Olympic Committee.
