Iran's parliamentary national security committee has approved a bill banning ships from the United States and Israel from passing through the Strait of Hormuz, news agency IRIB reported.
The statement announced that the committee passed the Strategic Measures for the Security and Sustainable Development of the Strait of Hormuz bill. The legislation prohibits the passage of vessels from the United States, Israel, and other countries considered unfriendly to Iran. It also blocks any cargo connected to Israel in any way.
Under the proposed law, shipping through the strait will be regulated by the Iranian government together with the country's armed forces.
United States President Donald Trump previously stated that the United States is ready to launch a strike on Iran not seen since World War II if the Strait of Hormuz is closed.
