A total of 1,500 couples were married in Kano state in northern Nigeria during a two-day event organized under local government sponsorship.
The mass wedding ceremony took place on Friday and Saturday. Authorities created the initiative to support couples who faced financial difficulty covering the costs of a wedding.
Financial Support for Newlyweds
According to the local government, each bride received a dowry of 200,000 naira, equivalent to approximately 127 euros. The state also provided each bride with a bed, a mattress, and blankets.
In addition to the physical items and financial dowry, authorities assured the newlyweds that they would receive ongoing assistance to help them start small businesses.
Government Aid Program
This ceremony marks the second time Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has organized a mass wedding event in the state. The initiative forms part of a broader local government program aimed at assisting low-income families across the region.
