The Kassel Huskies have taken top spot in the DEL2 standings after winning all four of their opening games in the new ice hockey season.
Sports director Daniel Kreutzer described the perfect start as a super beginning for the team, telling regional broadcaster hr-sport that he felt very positive about maintaining their early momentum after the Sled Dogs tasted success early in the campaign.
The reward for their four consecutive victories is immediate placement at the top of the table, putting the North Hesse side exactly where they want to be at this early stage of the year.
Kreutzer attributed the strong start to rapid team cohesion during pre-season preparation and an excellent character within the squad. He explained that building immediate self-confidence was enormously important for bringing a sense of calm around the ambitious club.
Aiming for DEL Promotion
The Huskies are based in the city of Kassel in northern Hesse and compete in DEL2, the second tier of professional ice hockey in Germany. The league operates directly below the top-flight Deutsche Eishockey Liga, known as the DEL. Reaching the premier division remains the primary objective in Kassel, ideally during the current campaign.
Kreutzer reaffirmed that the medium-term goal for the long-suffering club is to get out of second-tier ice hockey as quickly as possible. In previous seasons, Kassel missed out on promotion in dramatic fashion, leaving deep marks on the franchise that management is now eager to move past.
However, the sports director acknowledged that securing promotion will be challenging, noting that competition across the league has become increasingly difficult this season. Kreutzer reported that six or seven teams possess the quality needed to earn promotion, pointing out Düsseldorf and Dresden as particularly formidable rivals.
Potential for Further Growth
Despite the tough field of competitors, the flawless start has generated significant hope around the club. The 46-year-old sports director promised that the squad still has room for growth, stating that there is further upward potential and several areas where the team can still improve.
With four wins from four matches, everyone in Kassel feels ready to pursue their ultimate goal, hoping that their big dream of returning to top-flight German ice hockey can finally become reality this season.
