Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney won at the summit of Mont Ventoux to take the overall lead in the Tour de France Femmes. Editor Szymon Mańkowski reported in race coverage that key events began less than 10 kilometers from the finish line when Niewiadoma-Phinney, Vollering, and Reusser remained in contention.
Niewiadoma-Phinney launched a solo attack toward the summit, leaving her rivals behind. Her lead reached 40 seconds with 7.5 kilometers remaining and grew to one minute and 40 seconds by the final kilometer, securing victory ahead of the chase group.
Stage and Overall Prize Money
Organizers set the prize for a stage win at 4,000 euros, which is slightly over 17,000 Polish zlotys. In contrast, male cyclists receive 11,000 euros, nearly 50,000 zlotys, for winning a Tour de France stage.
With two stages remaining in the race, Niewiadoma-Phinney leads the general classification. The overall winner will receive 50,000 euros, or over 200,000 zlotys. The winner of the men's Tour de France receives ten times that amount.
The eighth stage of the Tour de France Femmes takes place on Saturday, August 8. Riders will complete a 171.9-kilometer route from Sisteron to Nice.
