Kate Hudson Reveals Why She Has Not Married Danny Fujikawa

Actress Kate Hudson revealed that high wedding costs and a massive family guest list have kept her from marrying her fiancé Danny Fujikawa five years after getting engaged in 2021.

Speaking on the September 8 episode of her Sibling Revelry podcast, the Almost Famous star explained that financial expense remains a major factor holding back their wedding plans.

Hudson stated on the show that she does not want to get married because it is too expensive, adding that she would prefer simple hors d'oeuvres such as chips and salsa instead of a lavish reception.

The actress also cited difficulties managing her large extended family when planning a guest list with Fujikawa. While Fujikawa expressed a desire for a small wedding, Hudson noted that their family alone includes around 50 people, alongside numerous children, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her brother and co-host Oliver Hudson recalled his own 2006 wedding to Erinn Bartlett in Mexico, which was kept to just 80 guests. Oliver shared that he strictly limited attendees to avoid meeting strangers at his own wedding, even barring the husbands of his wife's high school friends from attending.

The siblings explained that they prefer focusing their attention on immediate family members and their partners. Hudson previously praised Fujikawa in a 2019 interview with Women's Health, calling him her ultimate teammate who prioritizes family and shares her goals during disputes.

Parents Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson

Hudson and her brother Oliver were born to actress Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson of the Hudson Brothers band. Hawn previously married West Side Story actor Gus Trikonis in 1969 before separating in 1973 and filing for divorce after engaging Bill Hudson in late 1975. Hawn and Bill Hudson married on July 3, 1976, following her finalized divorce, before separating in 1980 and divorcing two years later.

Tensions within the family surfaced publicly in 2015 when Oliver posted a childhood photo on Father's Day with the caption "Happy abandonment day..." In response, Bill told the Daily Mail he no longer recognized Oliver or Kate as his children and asked them to drop the Hudson name, calling the post a malicious and premeditated attack.

Oliver later stated on Watch What Happens Live in November 2015 that the public controversy reopened dialogue and restored communication after 12 years of silence. Speaking on CBS Sunday Morning in April 2024, Kate Hudson noted that while she did not have a strong relationship with her biological father, their dynamic was warming up, emphasizing that she wished him happiness without rigid expectations.

Bill Hudson also fathered children Zachary Hudson and Emily Hudson with his late ex-wife Cindy Williams, to whom he was married from 1982 to 2000. He later welcomed daughter Lalania in 2006 with then-girlfriend Caroline Graham.

Brother Oliver Hudson

Oliver Hudson, born on September 7, 1976, was raised alongside Kate by Hawn and her longtime partner Kurt Russell. Speaking on Larry King Live in 2018, the Rules of Engagement actor explained that his darkly comedic Father's Day post unexpectedly helped rebuild his relationship with Bill Hudson.

Despite maintaining contact with Bill, Oliver considers Russell to be his true father figure. In a December 2025 interview with Us Weekly, Oliver remarked that while Russell is not his blood father, he shares many of his mannerisms, energy, and deep capacity for affection. Oliver also noted that he inherited his mother's emotional sensitivity, sharing that he takes 20 milligrams of Lexapro to manage it.

Oliver married Erinn Bartlett in 2006. The couple shares three children: sons Wilder Books Hudson, born August 23, 2007, and Bodhi Hawn Hudson, born March 19, 2010, alongside daughter Rio Laura Hudson, born July 18, 2013.

Family Matriarch Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell

Hawn and actor Kurt Russell began their relationship in 1983 after meeting on the set of the World War II romance film Swing Shift. The couple has remained together ever since without marrying. Russell, who was previously married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983, explained on TODAY in 2020 that marriage had not worked for either of them in the past. Hawn added that marriage often becomes big business rather than a necessity for a lasting relationship.

Kate and Oliver grew up close to Russell's son, Boston Russell, who was born on February 16, 1980, to Russell and Hubley. Speaking on Sibling Revelry, Kate remembered the initial challenge of blending their families at a young age. Boston has maintained a private life but appeared alongside the family at events, including Hawn and Russell's joint Hollywood Walk of Fame induction in 2017.

Hawn and Russell share one biological son together, actor Wyatt Russell, born on July 10, 1986. The Thunderbolts star played professional ice hockey in Europe until injuries forced his retirement in 2010, prompting his transition into acting. Wyatt married Meredith Hagner in 2019, and the couple has two sons: Buddy Prine, born in March 2021, and Boone Joseph, born February 13, 2024. In April 2025, Wyatt told People that becoming a parent deepened his understanding of his own parents' love, echoing comments Hawn made to Australian Women's Weekly in 2022 about her immense pride in her children and grandchildren.

Children Ryder Robinson and Bingham Bellamy

Hudson's eldest child, Ryder Robinson, was born on January 7, 2004, during her marriage to Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson. The couple separated in 2006 and finalized their divorce in October 2007 while remaining supportive co-parents. In 2009, Hudson told The Times Online that their relationship shifted into a permanent familial bond. Chris Robinson shared in February 2026 that Ryder was graduating from New York University in May, praising his musical talents in singing and guitar alongside an interest in acting. Ryder, who previously dated Iris Apatow, celebrated his second anniversary with girlfriend Piper Lacy in April 2025.

Hudson welcomed her second son, Bingham Hawn Bellamy, on July 9, 2011, with former fiancé and Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. The boy was named in honor of Bellamy's mother, Marilyn Bingham, and Russell's father, Bing Russell. Although Hudson and Bellamy separated in December 2014, they reframed their relationship to focus on co-parenting. Bellamy later married Elle Evans in 2019, welcoming daughter Lovella in June 2020 and son George in May 2024. Hudson revealed on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2024 that Bingham plays drums, plays baseball, and actively trades his own stocks and bonds after studying market news.

Daughter Rani Rose and Life with Danny Fujikawa

Hudson began dating musician Danny Fujikawa in 2016 after knowing him as a friend for years, and the couple welcomed daughter Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa on October 2, 2018. Following their 2021 engagement, Hudson told the Sunday Times in 2022 that she was excited to marry but in no hurry due to her busy schedule, calling Fujikawa a wonderful father and stepdad.

Reflecting on motherhood, Hudson noted that having her first child at age 24 involved growing up alongside him, whereas she maintains a more structured routine with her younger children while traveling the world together. In 2024, Rani appeared alongside her parents, brothers, Oliver's family, and grandmother Goldie Hawn in a SKIMS holiday promotional campaign.
