Kostas Sloukas Misses Greece Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Greece head coach Vassilis Spanoulis has named his squad for the second qualifying round of MundoBasket 2027, leaving out Panathinaikos captain Kostas Sloukas. The national team call-ups featured several major news items, with the absences of Sloukas and Giannis Antetokounmpo taking center stage.

The absence of Sloukas appears to hold greater significance regarding his future with the national team. The Panathinaikos captain previously indicated in public statements that his career with the national team was coming to a close.

His last major milestone with Greece came at EuroBasket 2025, where he helped the team secure the bronze medal. His omission from Spanoulis' latest squad signals that his long era with the national side may have reached its end.

Larentzakis Transfer and SUNEL Arena

Developments are also expected regarding Giannoulis Larentzakis as the player market opens up. AEK remains in the foreground to acquire the guard from Olympiacos.

Meanwhile, organizational decisions remain unresolved concerning club venue arrangements. Specific details still need to be settled regarding the prospect of Olympiacos using SUNEL Arena for upcoming games.
