The joint press service of the courts of Krasnodar Krai reported that a residential property and a car owned by the couple were forfeited to state revenue. The combined value of the seized residential unit and vehicle was assessed at more than 20 million rubles.

According to investigators, the Nesterenko family purchased property worth more than 20 million rubles between 2022 and 2024, an amount that exceeded the family's officially confirmed income. Investigators also stated that Nesterenko submitted inaccurate and incomplete information regarding his wife's earnings during mandatory property and income declarations while serving as deputy governor of Krasnodar Krai.

Russian asset declaration rules

Krasnodar Krai, informally known as Kuban, is a federal subject in southern Russia situated along the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, with its administrative centre in the city of Krasnodar. Under Russian anti-corruption law, public officials are required to file annual disclosures detailing their income, real estate and vehicles, as well as the earnings and assets of their spouses. Prosecutors may ask courts to seize property and transfer it to the state when an official's purchases exceed verified lawful income.

August conviction and prison sentence

The property forfeiture follows Nesterenko's criminal conviction in August, when he was sentenced to nine years in a general-regime penal colony. Alongside the prison term, the court ordered the former deputy governor to pay 146.7 million rubles in compensation for property damage caused by the offence.

Nesterenko was convicted under Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which covers the criminal offence of exceeding official authority. Earlier reports stated that the former regional official did not admit guilt.

Under Russian criminal law, Article 286 applies to state and municipal officials who perform actions clearly outside their statutory powers that result in a substantial violation of the rights of citizens, organisations or the state. General-regime penal colonies are the standard category of correctional facility in the Russian prison system for inmates serving custodial sentences for serious offences.
