The construction company Autostrada has begun installing eight steel beams for the span structure of an overpass near the Chernihivska metro station in Kyiv, the company's press service said.
Bridge builders finished constructing the supports and moved on to one of the key stages of the reconstruction. The beams were made at Autostrada's own metal structures plant under the supervision of the Paton Institute of Electric Welding. At the construction site, the beams were further assembled on special slipways before installation.
Autostrada said it plans to complete the beam installation by mid-August. The company said it will then begin installing cantilever elements, reinforcement and pouring of the monolithic roadway slab, followed by waterproofing and asphalt paving.
Nearly a billion hryvnia project
The reconstruction, which amounts to a full rebuild of the overpass, is worth almost one billion hryvnia and began in April 2026. As a result, the northern part of Kyiv's left bank has temporarily lost tram service, and traffic leaving Kyiv toward Brovary has become significantly more difficult.
Autostrada said it expects car and tram traffic on the overpass and Brovarsky Avenue to resume in November 2026, with the full overhaul completed in 2027.
Wider, more modern overpass planned
After reconstruction, the overpass will become significantly wider and more modern. Its width will grow by nearly 10 meters to 44.68 meters, and its length will reach 54 meters.
The structure will have eight lanes for vehicles, two tram tracks, sidewalks and bike lanes, and will meet barrier-free accessibility principles. Work at the site is continuing around the clock.
Background on the tender
In November 2025, the Autostrada group of companies, led by Maksym Shkil, won the tender for the capital repair of the overpass and interchange near the Chernihivska metro station without competition. The cost of the work is 985 million hryvnia.
Before this project, Kyiv had rebuilt from scratch the overpass near the neighboring Darnytsia metro station.
