Seismologists said the quake occurred at 04:50 UTC. Its epicenter was located 54 kilometers from the settlement of Skwentna, with the focus at a depth of 5 kilometers.

No information on possible casualties or destruction had been received so far, according to the report.
On August 6, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck off the coast of the Philippines, with its epicenter recorded 40 kilometers southwest of Sarangani province, home to about 7,500 people. Earlier, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit Japan's Kyushu island, affecting Kumamoto prefecture.
