A Reddit user has described how his marriage collapsed within weeks of his wedding, after ten years together, when his wife sat him down and told him she was leaving.
The user, who posts under the name Runningfromfeels, said he had dated and lived with his partner for a decade before the couple held a lavish wedding in April. He said they had written their own wedding vows and cried while reading them, promising in front of family and friends to love each other forever.
He said the following two months were a happy, love-filled life with a woman he also considered his best friend.
The sudden breakup
According to the post, everything changed in July, about a week after the couple returned from their honeymoon. He said his wife unexpectedly sat him down and told him she wanted to be alone, that she was moving out immediately, that she had already rented an apartment, and that their relationship was over.
He said the shock was so severe that he had a panic attack. His wife did not give him the chance to ask questions, he said, sticking instead to what he described as a prepared and rehearsed speech before leaving the house for good. He said he still does not know where she is now, who she is with or what she is doing.
Affair with a colleague
The man said he later learned his wife had been having an affair with a colleague. He said the web of lies gradually unraveled, and that she had been planning to leave him since before the wedding while pretending to love him and preparing to go on their honeymoon.
He said she had in fact been considering leaving him for years even as he kept investing more and more into their relationship and the life they were building together. According to his account, she badmouthed him to her lover and sent him explicit messages while lying next to him in bed, and secretly took time off work to look for an apartment and start a new life.
Financial fallout
The man added that the breakup would significantly worsen his wife's financial situation. He said she did not intend to make any claim on his property. He said he is still struggling to understand why she acted the way she did.
The account echoes similar posts from men who have said they were left scarred by divorce. Some of them have advised against ignoring even small complaints a partner raises, warning that unresolved grievances can eventually lead a partner to decide to leave for good.
