Marko Nikolic named Super League coach of the season

AEK Athens manager Marko Nikolic has been named the Super League coach of the season at the annual PSAPP awards ceremony in Greece.

The Serbian coach collected the trophy in person after guiding his club back to the summit of the Greek top flight during the previous campaign.

Speaking at the presentation, Nikolic thanked everyone involved and said the recognition was particularly special to him because the votes were cast directly by rival managers and fellow players across the competition.

He dedicated the accolade to his squad, stating that the players themselves were responsible for winning the award. Nikolic also extended his gratitude to his coaching staff, the club president, the AEK supporters, and his family watching the broadcast from home.

Peer recognition in Greek football

The accolades are organised by the Panhellenic Association of Professional Footballers, known by the Greek acronym PSAPP, which serves as the official trade union for professional players in the country. Founded to protect player welfare and represent athletes across the leagues, the association hosts the annual gala to honour standout performers from the season. Because the winners are decided exclusively by ballots submitted by opposing coaches and active players, the awards are regarded as the most prestigious peer honours in the Greek game.

Title pedigree across Europe

AEK Athens, traditionally known as the Union from the Greek word Enosis, are based in the capital and rank among the most storied institutions in Greek football. Established in 1924, the club forms part of the traditional Big Three of Athens alongside Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, regularly representing the nation in continental tournaments organised by UEFA.

Nikolic arrived in Athens with extensive managerial experience across European club football, having previously secured domestic league championships with Partizan Belgrade in Serbia and Fehervar in Hungary. The Belgrade-born tactician also guided Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow to a domestic cup triumph before taking the helm at AEK.
