Franco Mastantuono scored a hat-trick to give Fiorentina a 4-2 win away at Venezia, handing the Florence club its first victory of the Serie A season.
The 19-year-old Argentine forward, on loan from Real Madrid, scored at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo in the 29th and 30th minutes, netting twice inside the space of a single minute, before adding a third in the 84th minute.
A record for Mastantuono
The hat-trick made Mastantuono, at 19 years old, the youngest player in Fiorentina's history to score three goals in a single Serie A match.
The win also allowed Fiorentina to climb off the bottom of the table, giving the team both points and a psychological lift after a difficult start to the campaign.
Venezia's reply
Venezia tried to limit the damage and pulled a goal back through Hainaut two minutes after Mastantuono's third strike, but the response was not enough to change the outcome of the match.
The full scoring sequence in Venezia-Fiorentina 2-4 read: Adams put Venezia ahead in the 22nd minute, before Mastantuono levelled and then put Fiorentina in front with goals in the 29th and 30th minutes. Pellegrino added a fourth for the visitors in the 66th minute, Mastantuono completed his hat-trick in the 84th minute, and Hainaut replied for Venezia in the 86th minute.
Serie A results and table
The result came in the fourth round of Serie A fixtures. Other matches in the round included Genoa against Frosinone and Lazio against Milan on 12 September, and Atalanta against Cagliari the same day.
