Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has revealed behind-the-scenes details of his cameo appearance in Taylor Swift's new music video for her hit song Patient Zero.
The veteran signal caller spoke candidly about the experience on Monday's episode of the SiriusXM 'Let's Go!' podcast, describing the shoot as an unforgettable memory for his family after eagle-eyed football fans spotted him and his wife Kelly in the background of the video over the weekend. Stafford shared details of the video shoot with listeners, expressing gratitude for how the singer embraced his family during production.
Swift debuted the production at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, where she accepted the inaugural Artist Director Honors. The international pop superstar directed, produced, edited, and starred in the music video. The production marked a significant milestone for Swift, who took home top honors at the ceremony held in California.
Behind the scenes on set
Stafford, a former Super Bowl winner and reigning NFL MVP, recalled watching Swift take complete command of the set during filming. He expressed admiration for her multi-tasking skills as she managed every phase of the project.
"She's directing, producing, editing, running the show, obviously the lead singer," Stafford said during the podcast appearance. "It's a pretty impressive thing, and I was really happy to be a part of it."
The NFL star shares four young daughters with his wife Kelly: twins Sawyer and Chandler, aged 9, Hunter, aged 8, and 6-year-old Tyler. He brought all four girls to the set so they could watch him shoot his cameo and observe Swift at work.
Stafford praised the way Swift interacted with his family throughout the production, emphasizing how meaningful the opportunity was for his young daughters.
"My girls were there on the set, got to see how all that was done and how Swift kind of carries herself, which is unbelievable," Stafford said as he continued to gush over the experience. "I know my girls will never forget being there, seeing all that on set, which was cool."
Star studded cameo appearances
Throughout the Patient Zero video, Stafford and Kelly make subtle background appearances across several sequences, including a brief moment where the couple can be seen dancing together.
The Staffords were not the only high-profile figures invited to participate in the project. Hollywood actors Colin Farrell, known for his acclaimed film roles, and Dakota Johnson also feature in the music video.
They were joined on set by former professional hockey player Jarret Stoll, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Los Angeles Kings, and businessman Steve Cundari. Both men appeared alongside their respective partners, veteran sports reporters Erin Andrews of Fox Sports and television broadcaster Charissa Thompson. Andrews and Thompson, who host their own popular sports podcast together, have long been friends with the Staffords.
Connection with Swift and Kelce
Stafford explained that his personal relationship with Swift paved the way for his involvement in the video shoot. He noted that the bond extends to his closest friends as well.
"She's been amazing to get to know, and obviously amazing to my wife and my girls," Stafford said of the pop star. "It was kind of that connection that got me involved and some of my buddies. So, it was a really cool experience."
The Staffords previously attended Swift's wedding to fellow NFL star Travis Kelce, the multi-time Super Bowl winning tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. The star-studded ceremony took place in July at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Stoll, Cundari, Andrews, and Thompson were also among the invited guests who attended the high-profile wedding celebration at the Manhattan venue with their partners.
Tributes to the pop superstar
The Stafford family has publicly displayed their fandom for Swift and Kelce on prior occasions. In October 2024, Matthew and Kelly paid homage to the celebrity couple by dressing up as Swift and Kelce for Halloween.
Their daughters have also demonstrated their enthusiasm for Swift's music during NFL games. Last December, the four girls were spotted imitating the choreography to Swift's hit track The Fate of Ophelia from the sidelines.
