Matty Cash targeted by Everton in £20m bid to Aston Villa

Matty Cash targeted by Everton in £20m bid to Aston Villa

Everton have submitted a £20 million offer to sign Aston Villa defender Matty Cash following reports that manager Unai Emery is bringing in Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Villa Park.

British journalist Alan Nixon announced on Patreon that Everton, who finished 13th in the Premier League last season, have lodged the bid for the 29-year-old Polish international.

Everton manager David Moyes has been searching for a new right-back for a long time following the departure of Seamus Coleman. Everton had previously been linked with moves for Daniel Munoz and Alistair Johnston, but neither player completed a transfer to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Wan-Bissaka agreement at Villa

The bid for Cash comes as Aston Villa manager Unai Emery looks to rely on a different right-back for the new season. Villa have set plans in motion to bring in Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer news on Tuesday on X, stating that Aston Villa have agreed terms to sign the former Manchester United defender from West Ham. Romano reported that the deal is a loan agreement featuring a mandatory purchase clause, with Wan-Bissaka giving the green light for the Aston Villa project after all parties reached a full agreement.

The arrival of Wan-Bissaka is expected to complicate Cash's battle for a place in the starting lineup and could signal his complete departure from the Birmingham club.

Six years at Villa Park

Cash featured for Aston Villa a little over a week ago in the UEFA Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain. Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat to the French champions, with the defender playing a significant role in one of the conceded goals. British media have since questioned whether the game was one of his final appearances for Villa.

Cash remains under contract with Aston Villa through June 2029. If he moves to Everton, he will leave the club after nearly six years in Birmingham. During his time with the Villans, he has played 230 matches, scoring 13 goals and providing 17 assists.
