Michael Ameyaw set to leave Raków Częstochowa for Korona

Poland international Michael Ameyaw is set to leave Ekstraklasa club Raków Częstochowa to join league rivals Korona Kielce, according to Polish media reports.

The winger bid farewell to his teammates and coaching staff on Wednesday before training individually, following his omission from the team's latest league matchday squad.

Sports portal Weszło reported that Ameyaw was left out of Raków's squad for their weekend fixture by decision of the coaching staff. The outlet indicated that the player is expected to join Korona Kielce shortly to strengthen their attacking options, a development also confirmed by news site Na Wylot.

Managerial changes at Raków Częstochowa

The impending departure comes amid major turbulence at Raków Częstochowa following a disastrous start to the new Ekstraklasa campaign. The club lost all four of their opening league matches, leading to the dismissal of head coach Dawid Kroczek. Dawid Szulczek has been appointed to lead the team in their upcoming fixture against Lech Poznań.

Raków Częstochowa, based in southern Poland and nicknamed Medaliki, compete in the Ekstraklasa, the top division of Polish football. The club won its maiden top-flight league title in 2023 and has consistently competed at the top end of Polish football in recent seasons, making the early-season slump and squad changes a significant shift for the side.

Substitution error in European competition

Ameyaw's departure follows a bizarre incident during Raków's second-leg match against Croatian side Hajduk Split in the fourth qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. The player was taken off just before extra time and kicked an advertising board in anger after leaving the pitch.

Journalist Kamil Głębocki of Na Wylot reported on social media platform X that the staff member operating the substitution board accidentally displayed Ameyaw's number instead of the intended player. By the time the technical staff realized the mistake, the substitution could not be reversed under match rules, sparking immense frustration from the Polish international.

Ameyaw was subsequently left out of the squad for Raków's 5-2 defeat to Jagiellonia Białystok over the weekend, which appears to have been his final involvement with the Częstochowa club ahead of his anticipated move to Korona Kielce.
